Jack is a riot. He began walking at 1 week after his 1st birthday (although he did take a few tenatives steps along the way. He joined a little gym where he has a blast each time. He has tried scallops, shrimp, tempura, cupcakes, just about everything. He has just begun to push himself into standing position from the floor without assistance. He can say mama, dada, ma (more) and ee-ee(kitty). He loves all things Sesame street. He has also started to hold onto things jsut for comfort. The other day, he carried around a plastic soup ladle all day jsut because. In fact, he had to go to bed the other day with a plastic bird toy. He is so funny. Everyone comments on how he is such a happy baby, and for the most part he is. He loves getting his hair spiked (with spiking glue no less). He can eat a pancake, a large banana, an egg and 1 cup of milk for breakfast. He is still eating veggie and fruit baby food but has moved onto pretty much grown-up food and some toddler graduates. He can still eat #3 main foods, although it is rare. HE loves to run around and he can comfortably sign "more" and he points to everything. He understands alot. He can follow simple directions too. WE LOVE OUR BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I also stopped nursing this month…mommy is sad, but I gotta move on people. Imagine if I kept up until I was older, if you gotta ask for it man, you are too old for it!

Cephalocereus senilis

Old Man Cactus. Next to it is an Echinocactus grusonii.

From Wikipedia -
Cephalocereus senilis (Old Man Cactus) is a species of cactus native to Guanajuato and Hidalgo in eastern Mexico. It is threatened in the wild, but widespread propagation and popularity in cultivation have reduced the demand on wild populations.

It is a tall columnar species with clusters of stems, growing to 5-15 m tall; the individual stems are usually unbranched, being unable to withstand the weight of side branches easily (Mauseth Research). The most striking feature is the long, white hairs it possesses, which serve to protect it from the sun. The coat of hair makes many plants appear almost snow-white (however, the hairs conceal numerous sharp yellow spines). It is in reference to the shaggy white coat that the popular name ‘Old Man Cactus’ developed. At the young stage the cactus has silvery-white hairs, which are later lost as the plant grows.

The flowers are red, yellow, or white, though it may not flower until 10-20 years old.

Cultivation
Cephalocereus senilis is a very popular cactus in cultivation, grown for its woolly appearance. It prefers a very well-drained soil mix (more so than many other cacti), and lots of bright sunlight, which encourages growth of the hair.
