Does my coworker like me?

I want to know if my coworker likes me or not. I am an assistant manager of a store, and he is in loss prevention. We’d met each other in another store when he was training. We now work in the same store together. He is very quiet at first but very personable – friends with everyone. He is a manly guy – not huge on words or feelings, but he likes to play around and is goofy at times.

The other day, he gave me a hug. He was leaving for Thanksgiving break (I had to close the store but he left at 9pm). He entered the manager’s office with my back turned to him. We were the only ones in there. He yelled loud, on purpose, and I jumped! I ran after him and hit him in the arm, telling him never to do that again! He came in to tell me he was leaving for the night and wished me a happy Thanksgiving. When he said this, he hugged me. It was a moderate hug, about 4 seconds long. There was no patting or tight/close embrace – I don’t think that is his style even if he liked someone. He is more reserved than to cop a feel.

He’s very quiet in front of me, but when I start talking so does he. He will come up to me in the store and say hi to everyone, shake their hands, but he will tug at my hair.

The coworker spends most of his time on the floor, talking to coworkers or doing his job. When we do talk he approaches me when I am by myself, rather than with other people.

Do you think he likes me? How can I find out without asking directly?
