Hi everybody, in this video I show you how you can figure out what is causing you to have an itchy dry scalp, and if you have flakes, what those flakes mean. Dandruff, seborrhea, and psoriasis, can be extremely annoying and embarrassing, but the good news is they can all be treated. In this video I will give you tips on how you can treat and hopefully cure these scalp conditions. Dandruff shampoos can be drying to your hair, so I also offer some natural alternatives to using the over-the-counter medicated shampoos that are gentler. Things like Tea Tree Oil. . If you have long hair, you always want to be careful not to dry it out and since these conditions are conditions of the scalp, its best to protect your hair as much as possible. Hi, have your tried using a dandruff shampoo. Also be sure you are using a shampoo for oily hair. You may also want to wash your face more frequently as you may be experiencing a hormonal swing that is causing more oil production. It is very common to experience that at your age and during your period time.
hey i hope you reply back to me am very sad because my scalp from the crown area started to get very oily a couple of months ago and i noticed that it happens around the time of my period and i have dandruff now i never had dandruff its frustrating and my hair looks disgusting because after every shower that area looks like i have never showered in my iife .. am 19 but there is no itching or redness just oily nd dandruff plz help me its very annoying
@ying6342 I have no idea what the difference is. All I know is the MEDICATED one is the one a pharmacist told me to get instead of filling the rx for the dandruff and she was right – IT WORKED!

Hi, these are all different formulas used in different dandruff shampoos and that’s why you may want to try another brand that uses a different active ingredient if you are not having success with the one you are using. They are all effective in treating the flaking and itching. It’s just if you have a problem getting rid of it, that trying a different one may help.
and spraying a bit of hairspray or volumizing spray on your roots then gently lifting hair away from your scalp as you blow dry upside down. Also, it helps not to touch or brush your hair during the day. Just style in the morning and leave it alone. Touching your hair a lot brings the oils down the hairshaft. Try to find a very gentle shampoo that’s meant for daily use and oily hair and you should see a lot of improvement.
Hi, since you do have oily hair, you may want to forgo using coconut oil to massage your scalp. You are already producing enough oil and more will further exacerbate your oily hair issue. Many shampoo lines carry an oily hair shampoo. It’s kind of a trial and error to find one that you really like. You can definitely to things to make your hair appear thicker: shampoo your hair upside down (please see my video entitle properly shampoo your hair), blow dry your hair upside down,
@YouTips4U how are selenium sulfide, salycylic acids, and cool tar different in terms of treating dandruff, because i have trouble finding the selsun blue that is right for me? Are they all effective in controlling the flaking and more importantly the itching associated with it?
@YouTips4U Yes, you are right, i have very thin hair, and that’s why my hair always look so flat. Is there any way that i can make my hair looks healthier, thicker? Do you have any recommendations on what shampoos are good for oily scalp without damaging your scalp?
Hi, oily scalp can make your hair look flatter because the oil has a tendency to accumulate in your hair and weigh in down. This is especially common if you have thin fine hair.
Hi, you may have a sun allergy. You may want to look into that more. If you truly do have a dandruff problem then Selsun Blue does work, but not on all people. Sometimes you do have to switch brands to find the one that works for you.
does oily scalp make your hair look flatter, because the oil clogs the hair follicle?
Does all product lines of Selsun blue really work on all kinds of scalp problems? I personally have had itching, flaking and oily scalp for a long time, and the itching is really annoying. whenever i am exposed to sunlight or when i sweat, my head gets really itchy… what should i do to stop the itching?

Hi, yes she can. If she finds it irritating in any way, she should discontinue use. She is very young for dandruff as it usually strikes more in puberty, so be sure she has dandruff as she may just have normal amounts of flakes.

Selsun Blue is great but there are different kinds. Be sure to get the one that says MEDICATED.
Scalp psoriasis and seborrhea dermatitis of the scalp can be difficult to tell apart. They share similar symptoms as itchy, red, scaly skin. usually the scales of psoriasis are thicker and drier in appearance than the scales of seborrhea dermatitis.if you have scalp psoriasis, you might have mild psoriasis on your elbows, knees, hands or feet or may notice subtle nail changes. Hi, sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right dandruff shampoo. Give each one about a week to see if you notice any improvement. If you simply cannot find one that works, you may want to visit a dermatologist because you may have some other type of skin affliction that needs to be treated.
Hi, I’ve always had dandruff & head & shoulders usually works but I recently dyed my hair & I have an itchy scalp with more & larger flakes. I bought a coal tar shampoo & it’s still the same. What do you suggest?
