How to remove dark brown hair colour? Loreal suggested Bicarb??

Forced to continue using same shade of darkest brown in the loreal creme gloss range as my regrowth is very visible…unlike packaging promise. Wash my hair daily and usually even permanents fade out of my hair but this shade just won’t. Used it on Virgin Hair.( miracle that I managed to grow out all permanents only to have this happen!) .my natural colour is a mid-dark chestnut brown. My hair is very healthy, colour looks great..I’m just bored of it and well I wanted the option to change colours down the track..Loreal Advice Bureau suggested Bi-carb mixed with shampoo, left on for 5 mins then repeat, then treat and that apparently will work, though I am loath to subject my hair to harsh treatment. Also anyone heard of Loreal Colour Zap or know where to find in Australia?
I’m very aware that hairdresser can do a colour correction but I’m interested in a gentle home remedy. I’m not keen to get a muddy colour after a hairdresser has stripped my hair and in effect damaged it. The colour and condition of my hair is great I’m just bored of the colour..Please no suggestions that require my hair be stripped..I’m after a simple fading treatment..thats all.
