Mary Corrigan on Alopecia & Hair Loss – How Supplements can help

August 7, 2011 by
Filed under Baldness Hair Loss

Once I realised that I was not going to receive any further help with dealing with my hair loss from the medical profession, I took it upon myself to research what I could do instead. I devised a programme of supplements & vitamins which are all required by the body to sustain a healthy growth of hair. These supplements worked for me, perhaps they could help you too!

This is my first youtube video–I am a board certified Internal Medicine MD very interested in personal care (hair/nails/skin) and preventitive medicine. Please let me know if you have questions or want to see more on certain products.

    Thanks for all of the info in this video. I have low iron stores and have iron prescribed by the go and have regular blood tests. I’ll discuss these supplements with my gp as i’ve been experiencing increased shedding and want to address it before it gets worse.

    I’m on my way over to your website now :)

    Dr. Neda I have PCOS and my internal med doc told me to take 5000mcg daily in the morning it works great but I am taking the D-Biotin. I am a nurse so I was somewhat weary but its been great for my glucose levels and my nails are stronger. What do you recommend for women with PCOS for weight loss?

    Hi there…thanks for addressing this issue.I lost clumps of hair at about age 17.I am now 25 and the good news is that I’ve not lost any more hair since then however…my hair is very thin on the top.Have heaps of hair on the bottom of my scalp though!I’ve been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.My Hair care routine is using NIOXIN religiously, scalp massage everyday and started Biotin about 2 weeks ago.Nioxin really is my miracle product.Do you have more advice for me please?Thanks!

    hi Dr Neda, i just bought a multi formula & the Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Dietary Supplement Caplets. When I got home I realized the biotin has a LOT of ingredients…so many, I am unsure if it is supposed to replace a 1 a day multivitamin&mineral (if so it should state it’s a multi w/ biotin, but it does not say that). I could not wait to get home & start taking the vitamins & now I have my concerns if it is too much together. I would post an ingredient link, but you can’t do that.

    Hello Dr. Neda,

    I was just wondering if you could explain as to why biotin and acne seem to have a direct correlation?

    It’s one of the main reasons Im abstaining from trying biotin. Thank you!

    Are the nioxin products good for those battling lupus alopecia?

    @avediz20 Hello = ) I was wondering what kind of hair loss you have. Is it falling out, or thinning? Mine is thinning on the top of my head (the crown area). I just started taking Biotin 2 weeks ago. I’m take 5000 mcg. Yah so I was just wrondering if your experiencing thinning har on the top of your head (or anywhere else on you head?) I guess from what I heard that thinning hair on a womens hair happens to 1 in 4 of us women. What is your story? Thanks!!!! Smiles

  13. ohpineapples says:

    @ohpineapples Part 2 I’m taking 5000 mcg of Biotin.Also, what type of Dr. should I go see for this condition? I thought of seeing my family Dr. but I know he’d send me some place else. Should I see a Gynocologist & have her run a complete CBC&check my hormon levels? Does she do that? (nobody in my family has this) Should I see a encronologits (spell ? lol) I don’t wanna waste the Dr.’s time so I wanna get 2 the correct Doctor & have her/him check me.Can they tell if U are missing some harmones?

  14. ohpineapples says:

    Hello! I’ve been taking Biotin 4 about 2 weeks now. I’m 47/Femle.I’ve noticed that within the last 6 months my hair on the top of my head (the crown area) is starting to thin. Now fast forward 6 months from when this started happening-& a close friend of mine at work spoke to me about it & said “omg, I’m so sorry your going bald!” Ok, for 1 thing I’m not bald lol it’s only thinning on top. Do you think the Biotin is gonna help me? I’m styling my hair different to cover up the wide parts I have

  15. avediz20 says:

    Hi. I’m 21 years old and am suffering from Hairloss too. But after taking Biotin, I notcied a difference in my hair. It indeed helped my hair grow fuller and healthier. But I used Swanson’s Biotin. It’s the same I guess. Thank you for sharing this! Biotin really does help cure hair loss! :)

    hi Dr. Neda, I can’t tell you how happy I am to find your videos. I really appreciate your videos because they talk about hair loss which I have been recently experiencing. Both my parents have thick hair even in their fifties and recently my hair has been falling out everywhere…it’s shedding on everything and it really scares me. I had my bloodwork done because I suspected a thyroid problem or anemia (as you talked about) but the results came back normal. Anyway, thanks and keep posting!

  17. Sassymarkrep says:

    Thanks for the review. I’ve been taking biotin for my hair and its been great but I was unaware of the anemia and diabetes benefits so that’s awesome because I’m anemic and diabetes runs in my family (my mother has it).

  18. alikat85 says:

    Dr. Neda, I just purchased the 5000mcg bottle of Biotin, is that okay to take?

  19. MsLynette817 says:

    Is 5000 mcg too much to take daily? This is the amount of boitin in one capsule that I recently purchased.

  20. nessies11 says:

    thanks for the recommended dosage I was only taking 1000 mcg which was what was recommened on the bottle itself. Even though I was only taking 1000mcg I have noticed a difference, my hair has grown more rapidly and it is less damaged…can’t wait to see if there is even better results with 3000 mcg thanks again.

  21. bonifyjamaican says:

    i’ve been taking biotin for a year now, my hair is still thinning is there any topical i can use ??

  22. mekeda05 says:

    @fathemasyeda111

    I take One A Day Women’s Multivitamin Multimineral Supplement Tablets. you can find them anywhere for around 6 dollars or so. You’ll see better results if you take a One A Day multivitamin WITH ONE Biotin everyday. Stay consistent for about two months and you’ll see results for sure

  23. babyanjanmylife says:

    what if u hv a high blood pressure,stil can tke biotin?????

  24. fathemasyeda111 says:

    @mekeda05
