Natural Hair Journey 2 years

September 1, 2011 by

My hair journey from the last 2 years. I been natural since 2004 but I went to the shop on March 15th 2008 and got my hair pressed. The beautician damaged my hair beyond repair. I had to start all over. I didn’t know my hair was damaged and I got it pressed one more time on April 2nd, which is why I consider April 2nd my two year mark. I transitioned by wearing braids. And braids is my go to style when I want to protect my hair. I transitioned about 5 months then big chopped. I still had about 1 1/2 inches of straight ends that I would rod. I eventually trimmed them off.

I love your hair and the creative hairstyles you come up with. Absolutely beautiful! I recently had my big chop and I am trying to find out hair products work best with my hair type. What shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers and gels do you use on your hair?

@JaviFairground You’re asbsolutely right about people not appreciating what they have already been given, and quite truthfully, that is a damn shame. :) … But as a young child I learned to embrace whatever I had and make sure I made the best out of it, which also includes my hair, so I was never really jealous of white people in particular for having “silky, flowy hair”, knowing that every person has a different hair type and that each hair type is unique and special in itself.

When I see your videos, especially this one, one can only think of the word ‘freedom’, and that’s what I want.. it’s my reason for going natural: freedom from extensions, weaves, relaxing etc etc So thank u for posting your steps.. I cant wait for my taste of ‘freedom’ through my own natural hair…

@wereqwere if you say so, to me that just sounds like something you were raised up to believe its not a necessity for everyone. but since this is a video about washing natural hair personally i think thats what comments should reflect but of course everyone has the freedom and right to say anything they want. I just was wondering how your comment was meant to be taken. Have a good day.

  28. wereqwere says:

@kenasipoy Its whatever you make it to be, some people need just a little every now and then.

  29. kenasipoy says:

@wereqwere is that comment about makeup negative or positive because shes pretty without makeup so i dont see the need

It looks nice when i put products in it>>>SOMETIMES>>>> I don’t always get it right. Trouble is, I’m a singer and i’m on stage most days of the week, when my hair dries, it really looks dry and my curls don’t look as nice, this is definitely a challenge…Awwwwh. Is there any advice you can give me. I’m using oils and shea butter and all that good stuff.

I’ve been natural now for 6 months and I’ve been looking for a really good video on how to maintain my twist out after daily work outs. I love twist outs, but hated feeling like I to co-wash and re-twist more than often to maintain my style. I’m going to try your method after today’s workout, hopefully it’s as successful as yours. Your videos are amazing! Not too much and not too little. Keep up the good work!
