Q&A: itchy =[ ??

Question by elani: itchy =[ ??
Tuesday I started to get a little itchy down there… it’s now Thursday and, althought it’s less itchy, it hasn’t gone away completely. I know what a yeast infection is. This doesn’t SEEM to be like it.
I don’t have any discharge
It isn’t red or anything
My pee also is normal so I don’t think it’s a bladder infection

I was just at the gynocologist (sp) two weeks ago
I started birth control Sunday
I also just finished my period Monday

I thought maybe it could be irritated from the tampons, it could be my soap although it’s never bothered me before, or maybe even the birth control??

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what ended up being wrong? Could it still be a yeast infection if I don’t have any other symptoms?

It could be an infection, you can try the usual over-the-counter ointments for yeast infections and see if that helps. Plus since you just started birth control maybe that’s caused an imbalance. Yogurt helps with that (you eat it, don’t apply it down there!)

Another thing that can cause itching is if you have worms, sometimes that can cause itching in the front too.

More than likely it’s a yeast infection. Although you don’t have the classic symptoms right now (discharge, etc) it is common to get them when you begin birth control pills. You might ask your doctor for a prescription to diflucan. Feel better!

Sounds like a yeast infection, most likely vaginal thrush (I’ve had it before – no, I’m not a boy, just prefer that for my avatar). However embarrassing it may be, you should ask your mother about it. Vaginal thrush can be hereditary (at least, it is in my family). Or go to a doctor, he/she will give you a cream to apply there every day.

However, it may not be thrush – it could simply be bad hygiene. Wash more down there – don’t use perfumed lotions and crap. Just dilute some soap with a lot of water (about 1 part soap to 10 parts water), apply it to a flannel and just gently wash. Then dab that area dry. If that doesn’t clear things up, it’s most likely thrush, and you should see a doctor.
