Hair loss can affect all ages. Even at an older age, one can still feel the stress of losing hair. There are now many known reasons why people lose their hair. These reasons include genetics, hormones, diseases which are autoimmune, certain forms of medications and diet. There are many treatments as well for the loss of hair.
Treating hair loss is very important for the maintenance of your hair. When one experiences hair loss and does not treat it, there is the loss of hair permanently. For some people, men especially, there is no problem. It is rather a bigger problem for women. There are medications that are available to deal with the loss of hair. These may involve taking drugs, injections, and using topical solutions. These treatments may not offer a permanent solution to hair loss. Some of the medication has to be taken for the rest of one’s life. If the medication is stopped, then the cycle of hair loss starts over. Even the hairs that had started growing will also be affected. More permanent solutions are desirable. These solutions mostly involve surgery procedures.

Hair transplantation is one of the more permanent methods of treating hair loss. Hair is harvested from the parts of the head that are more resistant to hair loss. Pieces of the scalps are cut. From these, hair follicles are separated individually into follicular units. The follicular units are the ones that are transplanted. The follicles are transplanted in such a way that they ‘sit’ at the right angle. This will allow hair to grow at its normal angle. Although the scalp may go through shock, the hair will later start growing like all the normal hairs on the head.
Scalp reduction is also another surgical process to deal with hair loss. This method can be used together with the hair transplantation method. The area at which balding is occurring is cut off. The wound is then stitched back together after the skin that is left is pulled together. After this surgery, hair transplantation can be done. Skin grafting is the same as hair transplantation. The sections where there is baldness are cut off. The skin is replaced with grafts which have been donated by another section of the scalp. The cells from the donated site adapt to the change of position and will start functioning as before. After the surgeries are done, the patients are given some medications to help recover. The trick in successful surgery is finding the right surgeon who will do the proper job and making sure that after surgery care is done well.
The above options are rather costly. Not only should the surgery be paid for, but the medication one gets after the surgery should also be paid for. There are so many other options that one can pursue for the treatment of hair loss. However, others are more permanent than others. One can discuss how to treat hair loss with a dermatologist, who should be able to help you decide on the most suitable treatment method.
