What kind of doctor do you see for hair loss treatments?

My husband’s hair is thinning a bit on top. He’s 32, and his father was already half bald by his age, so although he’s held onto his hair quite a bit longer it’s a genetic inevitability he will eventually lose it. We’re just hoping to slow down the process, and maybe see some regrowth in the thinning area. What kind of doctor does he need to see to address this issue?

Side note: He’s seeing a dermatologist soon for his seborrheic dermatitis, should he bring up the hair thinning thing with her? He’s seeing a medical dermatologist, not a cosmetic dermatologist if that makes a difference.

    A Dermatologist or a Cometic surgeon or an Endocrinologist. The dermatologist deals with skin and hair.
    Cosmetic surgeon can put hair plugs… Endocrinologist deals with your hormone levels that produce hair. :)

    It is a common problem and it is inevitable however there are many things u can use to slow down the process, such as tablets to maximise hair growth also: gel.s serums and shampoos, here are some more popular ones;

    A medical Dermatologist and a cosmetic Dermatology should have the same credentials, though the cosmetic approach may advertise more hair-growing products for sale.

    I am 76, and I take medication for my Prostate that removes any sex- drive from my body. The medicine is named Finasteride(generic)and is the ingredient in the popular hair-growth, OTC- foam, but the potency is stronger. I began growing some new hair two years ago after using Finasteride. Some guys have used Minoxidil(spelling)and Finasteride together with fair results. Most guys choose not to use Finasteride because of loss sex-drive. Sebum is the oily substance on men’s forehead and scalp that clogs the hair follicles and reduce hair growth.

    It appears from your query that your husband may have inherited male-pattern baldness from a parent or grandparent.

    I have a thinning spot on my crown, and when I wash my hair, the hair stands up. Years ago, I discovered a hair product( in colors)that adheres to surrounding hairs to cover thin hair(Toppik). The same company sells a product named Fullmore(in colors) that spray on thinning hair spots like mine. Go to http://www.toppik.com and http://www.fullmore.com.
