What will make hair grow faster? Can this Hurt?

Got a BAD, BAD hair cut. It is so scary short!! I have decided to start taking hair, skin & nail supplements hoping for a boost in hair growth. I also bought a topical product called Top Care Hair Regrowth Treatment. It’s purpose is to treat thinning hair and the active ingredient minoxidil (which is compared to the active ingredient in women’s rogaine). My question is could there be any side effects? or any risks if I try it to solely get some growth stimulation?
I have also read Nioxin (also for thinning hair) has shown results in hair growth. Any ideas or experience?? Desperate here!! THANK YOU
